Last month we installed a King Air B-200 simulator in ASU’s Mesa campus. It seems that this iPad/EFB environment will be as popular with the simulators as the real aircraft. After doing some research we found that WIFI was the way to interface. With no cables in the cockpit and expensive Bluetooth adapters the WIFI router is built in to the simulator allowing an unlimited number of devices to be connected to the simulator all at once.
The choice EFB app is Foreflight it seems to be the most comprehensive and easy to use aviation EFB that we have seen year to date. ASU’s plan is to have two iPad’s in the simulator, and several iPad’s with the students behind the simulator following in the flight plan all connected simultaneously and GEO referenced. We hope to hear more about the use of this great integration, for more info on the app visit www.foreflight.com.
