Robinson R44 FNPT II

The ELITE R44 FNPT II Flight Simulation Training Device is a single or dual pilot, autopilot, original Garmin G500TXi and GTN 750 GPS equipped Flight Simulation Training Device capable of representing almost all aspects of the operational envelope. It is based on the Robinson R44.

This solution includes dual controls which have been built into an accurate replica of the Robinson R44 cockpit. The flight controls, instrument shrouds and pilots seating position emulate the actual aircraft as closely as possible to ensure maximum muscle retention and learning. The flight model for the aircraft has been programmed with the assistance of pilots who have flown the actual aircraft in question. The footprint of this device would be relative to the actual aircraft, cut off just behind the pilot’s seat in the aircraft. The instrument shroud and other panels are relatively accurate replications of those found in the aircraft with the center console containing most of the navigation units that are found in the actual aircraft.

This R44 FNPTII will have the ability to be accredited under EASA CS-FSTD (H) FNPT II, FAA AATD and CASA FSD2 cat B in Australia and it’s primarily useful for training in PPL(H) and CPL(H) and covers all aspects as listed in Annexure I.

Instructors Station

The Instructors Workstation or IOS consists of the following hardware; A central touchscreen that has the primary instruments on display and a number of custom-made failures for easy access by the instructor so that at the touch of the screen a specific failure can be activated. Included on this display is a camera display which enables the instructor to monitor the Pilot and Co-Pilot, as well as a pause button which will halt the flight so that specific instruction can be given.

A second touchscreen is located above the touch screen which enables the instructor to control items like the weather, additional failures, wind and also monitor and record the aircrafts flight track.

The system also comes with a printer, Hobbs meter and automatic start-up buttons so that the system can be totally controlled from the Instructors Workstation.

A colour laser printer is included to record and print flights for record purposes.

  • The system can be started, paused and ended, as well as missions created from the
  • Missions can be saved via the data base and later retrieved for starting or editing, the system also has a useful playback feature allowing for student debrief.
  • The Hobbs meter built into the IOS allows for a manual log-based system to be employed as well as a software log-based feature.
  • The IOS allows for independent monitoring of the primary instruments as well as monitoring of the Pilots via the onboard camera.
  • The inbuilt camera allows for independent monitoring of the Pilots.
  • The IOS has a communications system allowing for communication with the student Pilots.
  • The IOS makes provision for the triggering of emergencies, changing weather conditions, standard and other procedures as well as an ability to revert back to normal conditions.
  • The IOS allows for changes in weather conditions.
  • The IOS allows for changes in the various times of day and lighting conditions.
  • The IOS has a data recording facility and storage capacity to record flights and retrieve them at a later date for instruction or audit purposes.
  • The software system makes provision for the viewing of the aircraft from various positions during flight.
  • The IOS connects to the Qualification Test Guide (QTG) software which results are able to be printed via the IOS.

Curved Visual Screen

Curved forward cylindrical visual system utilizing three overhead LCD projectors covering approximately 220° x 45° field of view (actual continuous, unobstructed screen view is approx. 700 x 160 cm). The visual channels are projected from overhead onto a canvas projection surface. The system includes image projectors, image generators and projection screen. The advantage of this projection system is the very large FOV and low ceiling height requirements.
